about

In the middle of 2020, with more time than usual alone and with fewer adventures on the horizon, I thought about what might be next. I wondered what projects might be in my future with the uncertainty of how the COVID-19 pandemic would progress. I didn’t know when and how I would collaborate with any other musicians again, making solo flute works the best option for performance at that time. The pieces I chose to perfect and perform come from a diverse body of composers, and encompass some of my favorite evocative pieces for flute as well as many compositions new to me.

With the unwavering support of the Doudna Fine Arts Center and the administration of the Eastern Illinois University, I was able to perform (via live stream) and produce an album of twelve pieces for solo flute. The album includes standard works for solo flute by Valerie Coleman, Kazuo Fukushima, Jacques Ibert, and Shulamit Ran. It also serves as a resource for those looking for flute compositions from all over the world. For me, these pieces are songs that stimulate my imagination. I hope others will feel inspired to learn, listen, and consider them for their own study and performance.
